Driving simulators for driver training

and research

ST Software provides low-cost driving simulators for driver training and behavioural research.

Advantages of our simulators for driver training:

  • A guaranteed level of quality for all students
  • Training in a safe environment without stress and a guaranteed supply of traffic situations: this increases the effectiveness of training substantially
  • Fewer hours on the road: reduces fuel consumption which is good for the environment: one hour in the simulator gives a CO2 emission which is 13x less than one hour in a car
  • One instructor can control up to four simulators simultaneously which increases turnover
  • High quality of training in less time and at lower cost
  • Students get their driving licence faster
  • Driver training can be offered for a lower price which gives a competitive advantage
  • The driving simulator is very suitable for trainees with fear of driving

Why faster and cheaper ?

Using our driving simulators in the driver training curriculum results in faster and cheaper training because learning to drive is more efficient in a good simulator with lessons of high quality. Modern methods of training technology have proven their value in other sectors, like aviation and shipping. But in learning to drive, the possible advantages of a simulator are even bigger because car driving is such a complex task that requires several operations to be performed simultaneously. Also, the number of interactions during car driving is typically much higher than during flying or sailing. Our simulators are especially suited for training traffic participation and traffic insight. And those are precisely the skills that require most time to master during on-road training. Also, the costs of training in a simulator are lower than in a car. Moreover, students very much enjoy training in a simulator. The big advantage of training in our simulators is that there is a strong reduction in the hours required for training in a real car on the road. We found that training in our simulators for 6 to 8 hours resulted in the need for fewer lessons on the road: typically 15 to 20 hours instead of the usual 35 to 45 in the Netherlands. More information on the effectiveness of our simulators can be read here.
